The Different Parts of Medicare

Medicare is split up in to several different parts. Understanding all of the parts and what they do is the key to getting the most out of Medicare, and not being turned down when you need help the most. The coverage that Medicare gives is split in to 4 distinct areas, and only 2 of those 4 are included with the basic system.
Part A
Part A of the system will cover your hospitalization, as well as home health care, and hospice expenses. If you are eligible for Medicare you get this coverage at absolutely no cost. This is the core of Medicare and it will cover most of the basic costs.
Part B
Part B helps to fill in the gaps that A simply can’t cover. B will take care of the doctors; it also covers outpatient care, as well as more home health care. Part B also covers preventative care. The difference between A and B is that you have to pay monthly premiums for B.
Part C
C is what is known as a Medicare Advantage plan. These plans can be picked up from various private companies. There are different benefits depending on who is offering the plan. Typically medical costs are kept down by using large networks of discounted providers. These providers agree to charge lower amounts to in network patients. Advantage plans help to cover co-pays and other expenses not covered by parts A and B. The plans will also cover medication most of the time. Some even include additional perks like gym memberships, and meal programs. Make sure you understand the costs and what the plan covers before deciding to go with it.
Part D
Part D of Medicare is all about the Drugs. It is run by private companies who operate with Medicare. These companies do their best to cover the cost of prescriptions and they can be a life saver when you have to pay for expensive medication.
Knowing the parts of Medicare will give you a better idea of what your basic plan will cover. It’s better to know what you’re going to have to pay out of pocket and what will be covered even before you’re in the hospital.
